5-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide

Faith, Spiritual Warfare, and the Call to Go

Day 1: The Storm Does Not Change the Destination

Reading: Mark 4:35-41 — Jesus calms a furious storm on the lake while his disciples fear for their lives, and he rebukes both the wind and their lack of faith.

Devotional: Jesus said “we are going to the other side” before the storm ever came. He did not say “let us try.” He did not say “let us see what happens.” The destination was settled before the disciples ever stepped into the boat. When the storm hit, Jesus slept. Not because he was indifferent, but because a settled word does not require anxious vigilance. The storm was not a surprise to him. Their fear was. Whatever storm you are navigating right now, return to the word God has spoken over your life. He who began a good work in you will complete it. You are going to the other side.

Reflection: What word has God spoken over your life that a current storm is tempting you to doubt? Write it down and speak it aloud today.

Practical Application: Identify one area of fear or anxiety in your life. Find a specific scripture that addresses that fear and declare it over your situation each morning this week.

Day 2: The Testimony Is the Commission

Reading: Mark 5:1-20 — Jesus casts a legion of demons out of a man living among tombs, and instead of allowing the man to follow him, sends him home to testify to his own people.

Devotional: The man delivered from the legion of demons wanted to get in the boat with Jesus. He wanted training, proximity, and preparation. Jesus said no. He said go. Go home. Go to your people. Tell them what the Lord has done for you. This man had no seminary degree. He had no ministry credentials. He had a testimony. And Jesus considered that enough to send him into an entire region of ten cities. The one who has been forgiven much, loves much. Your story of what God has done in your life is not a liability. It is your greatest ministry asset. Do not wait until you feel qualified. Go.

Reflection: What has the Lord done for you that someone in your immediate circle needs to hear? Who in your life is waiting for your testimony?

Practical Application: This week, share one specific thing God has done in your life with someone who does not yet know him. Keep it simple, honest, and personal.

Day 3: The Kingdom Come on Earth

Reading: Matthew 6:9-13 — Jesus teaches his disciples to pray, including the petition that God’s kingdom would come and his will would be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Devotional: When Jesus taught his disciples to pray “your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” he was not describing a passive wish. He was describing an active mission. Heaven is the standard. There is no sickness in heaven, no poverty, no oppression, no broken families, no addiction, no injustice. The prayer is a declaration that these things do not belong here either. The gospel of the kingdom is not merely a ticket to heaven. It is the good news that heaven’s rule is meant to invade earth right now, through people who are willing to be salt and light in every arena of life.

Reflection: In what specific area of your life, your community, or your culture are you being called to bring the values of the kingdom of heaven to bear?

Practical Application: Choose one issue in your community that does not reflect the values of heaven. Pray specifically about it this week and ask God to show you one concrete action you can take in response.

Day 4: Renewed Minds and Transformed Lives

Reading: Romans 12:1-2 — Paul urges believers not to be conformed to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds so they can discern God’s good and perfect will.

Devotional: Transformation does not happen all at once. It happens through the consistent, daily renewal of the mind through the Word of God. Conformation to the world is passive. It happens when we do nothing. Transformation requires active engagement with scripture, with prayer, with worship, and with community. You may not notice the change in yourself at first. But others will. Your old friends may say you are no longer fun. Your family may say something is different about you. That is not a problem. That is evidence. The renewing of your mind is working. Do not stop. The further in you go, the less the old life will tempt you. That is the promise.

Reflection: In what area of your thinking does the world’s pattern still have the strongest hold? What does the Word of God say about that specific area?

Practical Application: Choose one area of your thought life that needs renewal. Find two or three scriptures that speak directly to that area and commit them to memory this week.

Day 5: The Weapons of Our Warfare

Reading: Isaiah 58:6-8 — God describes the true fast he has chosen: loosing the bonds of wickedness, freeing the oppressed, feeding the hungry, and covering the naked, with the promise that those who do so will see their light break forth and God’s glory as their rear guard.

Devotional: We are in a spiritual battle, and the weapons God has given us are not passive. Worship is a weapon. Prayer is a weapon. Communion is a weapon. The declared Word of God is a weapon. Acts of justice and mercy toward the broken and the poor are weapons. Isaiah makes clear that when we engage in the work of setting the oppressed free, feeding the hungry, and caring for those cast out, something breaks open. Light breaks forth. Healing springs up. Righteousness goes before us and the glory of God covers our back. The battle is not only fought on our knees. It is fought in the streets, in shelters, in correctional facilities, and in the places where broken people are waiting for someone who has been set free to show up and tell them it is possible.

Reflection: What specific act of service or ministry toward a broken or marginalized person is God calling you to step into? What has been holding you back?

Practical Application: Contact one local ministry, shelter, or outreach this week and ask how you can serve. If you cannot go in person, commit to covering that ministry in specific, daily prayer for the remainder of this month.
